“The Kennedys were behind it”

Did John or Robert Kennedy have a part in her death, or in covering it up?

Where it came from · by 1985 (earliest record read)

Anthony Summers’ 1985 book “Goddess” alleged affairs with both brothers ABC’s 20/20 segment based on it included claims that a private investigator hired by Jimmy Hoffa had taped them. A 2022 Netflix film featuring Summers returned to it.

Their strongest arguments, and what the evidence says
  1. A network spiked the story to protect the Kennedys

Summers said the cancellation “was the result of biased news management and political pressure.”

    The premise: likely

True that ABC pulled the segment twice in 1985. Its news chief, a friend of Robert Kennedy’s widow, denied that played a part; no one the Los Angeles Times reached suggested the family had asked.

  2. Robert Kennedy gave her a fatal drink

A former undercover detective says the actor Peter Lawford told him Robert Kennedy “gave Marilyn something to drink which left her dead”, and that the police covered it up.

    The premise: unverified

It is a second-hand account of what Lawford is said to have told him. No record read confirms it, and the 1982 review found no credible evidence of murder.

  3. The government was watching her

Videos tie her death to the Kennedys and J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI.

    The premise: likely

True that the FBI kept a file on her over suspected communist links. It found no proof she was a party member, and the files do not show it investigated her death.
